Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Pain Management Physician?
A pain management physician is a physiatrist, anesthesiologist, neurologist, or psychiatrist fellowship trained and board certified in pain medicine who is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of painful conditions.

Who Should seek evaluation by a Pain Management Physician?
Patients who suffer from acute, post-operative or chronic painful conditions involving the spine, joints, or nerves can benefit from an evaluation.

What does a Pain Management Physician do?
In order for a treatment to be effective, the source or cause of pain must be diagnosed correctly.  A Pain Management physician conducts a thorough history, including a physical examination, and requests and evaluates necessary studies such as nerve conduction studies, MRI's and CT scans.  Specific treatment options are then discussed with the patient.

Treatment Options
An individualized treatment plan is offered to each patient based on the source of pain, time of onset, current functional status and the patient's preference.  Conservative treatments like medication, physical therapy, and chiropractic treatment may be combined with minimally invasive  x-ray guided outpatient procedures.  Treatment allows patients to recover faster so they can return to work, resume normal daily activities, and enjoy a better quality of life.
