Scope of Practice
Chiropractic is a primary contact or care profession that does not require a medical referral. Chiropractors have a right and a duty to perform a diagnosis, and utilize special studies (X-ray/MRI/Labs). Treatment often includes patient education, chiropractic spinal manipulation, physical therapeutics (ultrasound, electrical stimulation), and physical rehabilitation/exercise prescription.
No use of prescription drugs or surgery are utilized, however chiropractors often refer patients to medical providers for co-management.
In multidisciplinary settings chiropractors and pain management physicians work together to coordinate care, collaborating in patient diagnosis and management strategies.
Chiropractors often refer patients for physical therapy, occupational therapy and/or strength and conditioning programs.
